Quizlet Cheat Sheet

Quizlet Overview

Quizlet is an online study tool that allows users to create flashcards and tests, play study games, and share their information sets with others. It allows teachers to organize their revision resources in an electronic way, and the Quizlet Classroom gives them a presence with students outside of school. Using this website, students can participate in blended learning, and access studying materials made by teachers and peers from home. There are also apps available for iPhones, iPads and Android devices, as well as a Chrome extension to allow the user to take full advantage of the studying features. Ultimately, Quizlet’s mission is to make learning fun and engaging for users of all ages.

Features of Quizlet

Creating Sets

The user can create their own study set with terms and definitions, or they can save time and find a premade set using the built-in search filters. Using the auto-define feature, the user can speed up the creating process and select definitions from other people’s sets. Content from any word processor can be imported directly into the set, and pictures can also be added for a more in-depth studying experience. All study sets can be printed in various flashcard formats.

Study and Game Modes

Quizlet offers six interactive studying modes including the basic Flashcards option, Learn, Speller, Test, Scatter, and Space Race. For high school students, Flashcards, Learn, and Space are particularly helpful. Flashcards are ideal for reviewing the material or consolidating it by listening to audio. The Learn tool allows the student to enter the definition based on the term (or vice versa), and is powerful for recall practice and tracking answer accuracy. Lastly, Space Race enhances quick retrieval by testing the user’s ability to type in terms/definitions as prompts scroll across the screen.

Organizational Features

Quizlet’s self-test features (Learn, Speller, Test, Space Race) monitor the user’s progress and record frequently missed concepts. Students can then “star” these terms (or any other ones they are having difficulty with), and study them separately. As well, study sets can be grouped into folders to allow for better organization and easier searching on the web. A bookmarking feature is available to save study sets created by other people.

Classroom Feature

Using the Quizlet Classroom, teachers and students can create a fun and educative space for their classes. A teacher can have full control over the material available in the group, and create flashcards for their students to use. Alternatively, the students can also be allowed to edit the content, and share their own sets to the Classroom. Classmates can compete against one another using the Top Scores feature available for Space Race and Scatter. A teacher who already has a Google Classroom set up can also easily link it with a Quizlet class, and invite their students directly from the Google Classroom.

Sharing Sets

Quizlet encourages students to study with one another. Using the Share feature, students can share their created study sets with friends through an existing Quizlet Classroom, Google Classroom, email, or through social media websites. Most sets on Quizlet are public and can be easily found by entering in keywords. However, sets can also be changed to be password protected, or only accessible through a direct link. There is also the option of making the set visible to only the creator.

Quizlet Plus & Quizlet Teacher

For the most part, Quizlet is a free online resource. However, upgrading to Quizlet Plus allows access to powerful bonus features such as voice recordings, uploading specific images, unlimited set creation, and an ad-free Quizlet experience. There is also the option of Quizlet Teacher for teachers, which provides a Class Progress feature to monitor where students are struggling, and unlimited class creation.
